I am an Honours student within the School of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Sydney.
I am currently investigating the intersection of community mental health initiatives, consumer advocacy, and the women’s liberation movement in Sydney. My thesis centres around the radical and innovative Louisa Lawson House for women which operated in Arncliffe in the 1980s and 90s.
Whilst I originally studied psychology and believed that clinical psychology was the path for me, this changed when I began to engage with perspectives that are critical of the dominant biomedical model of psychiatric treatment. I found that many of these criticisms resonated with me, especially those coming from consumer advocates, and I have been absorbed in this critical discourse ever since.
This shift in focus brought me to this project where I am delighted to be working alongside this passionate group of researchers.
